Specialty Regattas

Wounded Veterans Regatta:

The Wounded Veterans Regatta is held annually in June. This day is dedicated to the men and women and their families who have served and sacrificed to preserve our freedom. Each year we invite over 100 service members and their families to join us for a day of racing on the Metedeconk River. The Barnegat Bay A Cat fleet graciously provides their vessels for the event. Crews are created by combining seasoned sailors with our country's veterans. Those who do not wish to sail can partake in the action aboard one of several spectator boats that disembark from the Club. This is a truly special event for all at BHYC. The very least we can do for our heroes is share with them and their families our pastime and passion of catboat sailing on the Barnegat Bay.

John Callahan Classic Boat Regatta:

The John Callahan Classic Boat Regatta was created to honor the memory of BHYC sailor, John Callahan. The sudden loss of John in 1997 inspired his many friends to create a memorial fund in appreciation of his long term commitment to helping others interested in the sport of sailing.

The Callahan Fund and the Bay Head Yacht Club jointly host the Callahan Regatta. The first regatta was held in 1998. Racing classes include A-cats, Sanderlings, Sandpipers, M Scows and Duck Boats. The regatta includes a sailor's seminar in the morning that has featured some of the most prominent names in the sport from around the world.

In the spirit of John Callahan's love of sailing, the Callahan Regatta has been a gathering point for over 20 years for sailors from all around the Barnegat Bay to learn about the sport, enjoy competitive racing, and experience camaraderie with their fellow sailors.
